9/11 Ride 2009
On August 22nd 2009, we held the 5th annual Ride 9/11 Flight Crew
Memorial Motorcycle Rally. We had a great turn out with over 200
participants on approximately 150 motorcycles.
This year the Colorado National Speedway re-named the race night the
Ride911 Flight Crew Memorial Ride race, which was a true honor to all of the
flight crew who rode this year, and of course to the ones who have fallen.
The weather was absolutely perfect for the ride and the race.
We kept the venue the same this year as last year due to the great
success we’ve had and feedback from the riders. It was a hot 90
degrees as we began the ride but luckily it cooled off to a very comfortable
temperature as we got back into the foothills. It was a beautiful day
in the mountains with no mishaps and all riders returning safely to the
Speedway. Once back we got to do what many of us feel is the
highlight of the day and ride a few laps around the track, then line the
bikes up in the in-Field in front of the grandstand. The Ride 9/11
participants and race fans paid tribute to our great nation with Old Glory
flying above the numerous Pilots’, Flight Attendants, and ground crews while
the Star Spangled Banner played. We exited the track and returned to
the hospitality section for a fun filled night of great food, beverage and
races.
As always none of this is possible without all those that step up and
help us, so we’d like to give thanks to Top Gun Motor Sports for their
sponsorship of this years T-shirt, Allstate Insurance with their cash
donation, all the volunteers that sacrificed their time in this effort and
of course everyone who came out to attend the fifth annual Ride911 Flight
Crew Memorial Ride.
Lastly we would like to give special thanks Mindy Harkins and the
Colorado National Speedway for their continued support with this great
event. None of this is possible without her and the rest of the
Speedway staff. If they will have us back in 2010 we will be happy to
celebrate the 6th annual Ride 9/11 rally.
