9/11 Ride 2008 This year’s ride was met with a beautiful Colorado day, with sunshine and almost perfect temperatures. We left the speedway at 3:00 p.m. and worked our way west into the Rockies. The winding roads were met with one hundred and eleven riders this year. Remarkably we stayed together throughout the two and a half hour ride. John Brand was our one and only road captain this year, he was followed by Paul Lucken and his fellow pilots and riders. Fat Rat photography set up their shoot mid way through the ride and managed to take some real nice photos. You can check them out at www.PhatRatt.com We started the ride this year late so we could take part in the Colorado National Speedway’s opening ceremonies, which commenced at 6:00 p.m. This was a perfect end to a great ride. We were met by a few thousand eager race fans as we roared out onto the track with the American Flag being held by Andy Schuttloffel. After a short half lap around the track we gathered in the infield for a few words by SHARK from 103.5 THE FOX, a quick prayer, and our national anthem. A few pilots who chose to wear their uniform shirts and ties formed the color guard. Jim Colburn honored us by holding the Red White and Blue as we sang our national anthem. “Gentlemen start your engines” was announced and we proceeded onto the track for a five lap rally that was met with applause from the race fans. After our warm welcome from the fans we retired to the Hospitality Section at turn 2 where we enjoyed food, drinks, the races and socializing. At intermission the Ride 9/11 staff and Shark took center field to raffle off some fantastic prizes. Nathan Lucken was the ticket bearer and he did a great job picking out the winning numbers. This event is only possible because of the support we receive from our riders and race fans, however we would like to recognize a few individuals who go above and beyond for this cause. The Colorado National Speedway hosts our event and without their support we would not have had the success we did. Thank you Mindy, Jim and the entire staff of CNS. Our other sponsors and raffle donors, Metro Brokers (Stovall and Associates), Allstate Insurance (Phil Sperber), Precizion.com, CAE, Altitude Limousines and many others. A special thank you to John Brand, Shark (103.5 The Fox), and our friends and families who volunteer every year. We will be posting the event date for next year real soon! We look forward to seeing you again for the Flight Crew Memorial Ride at the Colorado National Speedway. The Ride 9/11 staff
